How we Do It!...

The first thing we do when we receive your hard drive is inspect it for physical damage. We do not open it at this time, since it will most likely not be necessary to do this.

We then perform a step-by-step diagnostic procedure that we have developed to determine the best way to retrieve data from your drive. There are many things that could be wrong with your hard drive, but it boils down to the following:

  • Physical Failure: This is when there is actual physical damage to the hard drive (either to the head, platters, or electronics). It is a little more difficult to recover data from a damaged drive and also a little more expensive. It is a possibility that replacement parts will need to be installed in the drive just to perform the recovery.

  • Logical Failure: This would have to do with accidental file deletion, formatted disks, firmware corruption, or partition errors. We can usually recover using one of our specialized recovery software packages.

The Recovery Process...
We receive your hard drive at our Lancaster, PA location...
The hard drive is logged into our system using a unique identifier that is assigned to your name. The hard drive is then tagged with this information.
Diagnostics are performed using our in-house recovery systems. This is specialized recovery software that scans your drive and determines whether the drive has a physical or logical problem
Once the type of problem has been diagnosed, our technicians contact you so you know the nature of the problem. We firmly believe in keeping our customers informed with up to date information about their drive. We understand the stress that goes along with losing data.
At this point we can usually give a cost estimate for the data recovery. The customer will then be asked for approval to perform the recovery. If there is a physical problem and parts need to be ordered, we will provide a cost estimate for any parts that are needed.
Once we receive your approval the data recovery is performed. Data is recovered onto one of our recovery system hard drives and checked for integrity.
After the recovery we transfer your data to the media of your choice (hard drive, DVD, CDR, CDRW). We can provide this media at a fair price, or you have the option to provide the media.
Both your recovered data and damaged media are then sent back to you via UPS. Our technicians are available for any questions after you receive the package.
